Contribution Overview
The firefly model was by far the most challenging model, as it would teach me the importance of optimization while also serving as my introduction to texturing and normal map creation within Blender.
Challenges
Model Creation
The creation of this model presented several new challenges as I wanted to focus on building the model more sensibly by taking into account the texturing, rigging, and animation process. Similar to the wolf-spider above, I began building with basic shapes. After I had my shapes in their general location, I joined them together making sure to keep the wings separate from the main body.
Textures
This is my first experience texturing. I started by manipulating alpha settings within the Principled BSDF node, as well as manipulating roughness and metallic settings. This got me close to my desired outcome, but I realize that I needed more information on their uses before I could implement them successfully. My workaround was...
Optimization
cutting down vertices and using decimate modifier.
